Although
Granville Davies has photographed
everything from microelectronic
components to cheetahs chasing
across the plains of East Africa,
he returns again and again to
one inexhaustible subject: the
human face. A sequence of his
portraits of writers - including
Tom Stoppard, Doris Lessing and
Lawrence Durrell - was the subject
of an exhibition at the Royal
National Theatre. Many have been
used to illustrate profiles and
features in newspapers and magazines,
and several are in the collections
of the National Portrait Gallery.
